Sky Meadows State Park

Last week I was in VA to visit The Boy. On Saturday we hiked part of the Appalachian Trail at Sky Meadows State Park. The weather cooperated nicely, overcast with a slight breeze. And thankfully, The Boy reminded me to take my camera, as I was about to walk out the door empty handed!

The forest was pretty quiet, but our sightings were limited to little critters, green foliage and mesmerizing fungus. Inspiration at every turn. I had a hard time not thinking about Pan's Labyrinth and Lord of the Rings. I kept waiting for a mystical creature to squeal as I accidentally squished it, tromping along the trail. But I never heard any. I'm sure they're used to dodging hikers.

Who knew tree fungus could be so beautiful!
